Our autonomous mobile robot TIAGo OMNI Base has successfully passed its first round of physical trials at the facilities of our partners at TECNALIA, a crucial milestone proving the strength and reliability of our work.
Building the future of logistics
For a test to truly matter, it must recreate the final operating environment as faithfully as possible. That’s exactly what we set out to do. Together with Tecnalia, we built a space with the exact dimensions and features of the future “vertiport”, a portable logistics hub where our robot will operate.
Inside this environment, our AMR faced its biggest challenge yet: proving that everything working flawlessly in simulation performs just as well in the real world.
Precision navigation meets real-world cargo
The testing had a dual objective, and our robot successfully met both:
- Validating Intelligent Navigation: Powered by its new ROS2-based navigation system, the robot showed remarkable precision moving autonomously through the circuit. It followed planned routes, respected spatial constraints, and operated with the smoothness we had designed. This was the ultimate confirmation that TIAGo OMNI Base digital “brain” is fully in sync with its physical body.
- Simulating Real Operations: A logistics robot must carry goods. Throughout the trials, our AMR transported a payload box, built to replicate the weight and dimensions of real packages it will move in the future. This allowed us to validate not only its navigation but also its stability and performance while carrying out its core function.
Why this milestone matters
Transitioning from simulation to physical trials is one of the most critical moments in any robotics project. This achievement proves three essential things:
- Trust: The technology we’ve developed is robust and reliable.
- Feasibility: The concept of an AMR operating in a vertiport is practical and achievable.
- Teamwork: This success is the result of outstanding collaboration between all project partners.
Looking ahead
The journey is far from over, but the first steps of TIAGo OMNI Base in the real world have been strong and steady. We’re moving forward with confidence, toward the future of logistics.
