PAL Robotics at VIBOT Day – Girona

Thursday, 16th June 2011, PAL Robotics attended the VIBOT day held in the University of Girona (Spain). VIBOT is a 2 year European Mundus Master in Computer Vision and Robotics conducted by the Université de Bourgogne (Le Creusot, France), the Universitat de Girona (Girona, Spain) and Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, Scotland). It started in 2006 as part of the European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus programme. It is the only Erasmus Mundus Master Program in 3D Vision and Robotics among the 103 Erasmus Mundus Master Programs accredited since 2004 in all disciplines.

PAL Robotics was invited to participate in the VIBOT day as a potential collaborative company where skilled students can fulfill their training period. Francesco Ferro, CEO and Jordi Pagès, Research Engineer, presented the company and the main research works in the field of autonomous navigation, perception for human robot interaction and dynamic motion adaptation. Furthermore, they got awareness of the high level of the works presented by some of the recently graduated students.

PAL Robotics had the chance to visit the facilities of the VICOROB, the host laboratory organizer of this year VIBOT day. People at the lab offered a guided tour and we could discover their impressive underwater robots. Thank you very much for your kindness!

The event was very fruitful for all participants. PAL Robotics’ presentation was one of the most successful due to its close relationship with the Master main topics. On the other hand, PAL Robotics met not only the students of the Master but also the representatives of the three universities. Interesting discussions arose like how companies could benefit from the research carried on the research laboratories of the consortium and how to sponsor the Master and hosting a continuous flow of students in order to maintain a long term collaboration.
