What does PAL Robotics do? PAL Robotics is a young and dynamic company, consisting mostly of engineers, that originally was created as a Research & Development company of humanoid robots. This Spanish company based in Barcelona is now commencing the launch and production of commercial products, after many years of study which have delivered various prototypes.
What are the functionalities of REEM?


REEM, the latest humanoid service robot created by PAL Robotics, can be used for several purposes. Thanks to its autonomous navigation system, its user-friendly touchscreen, and its voice and face recognition system, REEM can find its way in various surroundings and help or entertain people in most public environments. Besides helping one as a guide or amusing people as an entertainer, REEM can also transport small packages, and its dynamic information point can be used with a wide variety of multimedia applications: display an interactive map of the surrounding area, call up a variety of information (weather, nearby restaurants, airlines travel time, etc…), offer tele-assistance via video-conferencing.
At which places can REEM operate? Any public place really, such as hotels, trade shows, entertainment parks, shopping malls, holiday resorts, museums, airports, hospitals, etc…

What is a humanoid robot? A humanoid robot is a robot with its overall appearance, based on that of the human body, allowing interaction with made-for-human tools or environments. In general humanoid robots have a torso with a head, two arms and two legs, although some forms of humanoid robots may model only part of the body, for example, from the waist up. Some humanoid robots may also have a ‘face’, with ‘eyes’ and ‘mouth’. Androids are humanoid robots built to aesthetically resemble a human. (
What is the main difference between the REEM-B and REEM robots? REEM-B is a prototype of a humanoid robot, and won’t be commercially sold. The REEM robot is designed for the commercial market. It is wheeled and interaction occurs via a touch-screen on the chest.
Can REEM recharge itself? Not yet, but the PAL Robotics’ team is currently working on a docking station
What tasks can REEM-B accomplish? REEM-B was introduced 2 years ago and is targeted primarily at research labs. It is capable of face recognition, it can lift objects up to 14 kilograms, and can walk. It cannot yet climb stairs reliably, or operate outdoors.
