The SocSMCs project aims to investigate the human behavior and its cognitive system to improve Human-Human and Human-Robot interactions. For this purpose, researchers perform trials with humans and robots. With the goal of achieving a robotics technology that is socially competent, some of the SocSMCs tests are being done with PAL Robotics’ humanoid robot REEM-C.

Researchers focus on understanding the biological process that makes people react naturally when facing a stimulus, synchronize an action without words with a counterpart, or anticipate their movements and reactions. In fact, the term socSMCs (Socializing Sensorimotor Contingencies) is referred to socially relevant action-effect contingencies that cause human reactions.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 641321.
