REEM-AREEM-A was the first humanoid robot developed by PAL Robotics. It was designed to play chess with the Hydra chess engine and to be used as a walking, manipulation, speech and vision development platform. REEM-A development finished in 2005. In 2006 it was ready to take part in the RoboCup competition in Bremen. There it won the walking competition and was a semi finalist in the penalty kicks. In 2007, using the same software as 2006, REEM-A also took part in the RoboCup in Atlanta and was once again a finalist in the penalty kick competition.
