FLEXIA

Project overview

The FLEXIA project emerges to address the critical challenges of industrial digitalization: the lack of data sovereignty, poor interoperability between OT/IT systems, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Its core objective is to design a decentralized Federated Artificial Intelligence (FAI) architecture that enables collaborative model training without the need to share sensitive data, ensuring privacy through novel networking and cybersecurity techniques. To overcome hardware limitations at the edge, FLEXIA integrates cutting-edge technologies such as neuromorphic computing, tensor networks, model compression, and 5G communications. These tools optimize real-time processing and energy efficiency in resource-constrained devices. Furthermore, the project promotes the creation of interoperable data spaces under the FAIR principles, ensuring robust governance and superior data quality. Aligned with Industry 5.0, the project will validate its solutions in real-world environments including collaborative robotics, the steel industry, and telecommunications. FLEXIA seeks to consolidate a new generation of smart, secure, and resilient factories, where AI serves as a driver of competitiveness that respects technological sovereignty and fosters symbiotic collaboration between humans and machines.

Our Role

Within the FLEXIA project, PAL Robotics is responsible for developing manipulation systems based on reinforcement learning for the TIAGo Pro, trained using the project’s federated AI. PAL’s role also involves integrating advanced multi-robot localization and route optimization algorithms—developed by project partners—into the Omni Base and TIAGo Pro platforms, providing robust fleet management capabilities. Additionally, PAL Robotics offers support in areas such as model compression and cybersecurity, ensuring that all these innovations are successfully deployed in the consortium’s real-world industrial pilots.
