CO-HAND

Project overview

CO-HAND is a pilot project led by PAL Robotics to partially automate repetitive, physically demanding material handling tasks at CETRIKO’s textile plant. Using the TIAGo Pro robot with AI perception from JARVIS tools, a custom gripper, and operator collaboration through a user interface and socially readable behaviors via ROS4HRI, the project aims to reduce fatigue, injury risks and inefficiencies. It follows a user-in-the-loop approach with early deployment and iterative refinement through worker feedback.

Our Role

PAL Robotics coordinates the CO-HAND project as the main technology provider and integrator, delivering advanced hardware, manipulation, navigation, HRI, and deployment expertise. Using the TIAGo Pro mobile manipulator, PAL Robotics leads the integration of AI-driven perception tools, custom adaptive grippers, and intuitive operator interfaces. Working closely with CETRIKO, PAL Robotics ensures the successful design, development, and validation of a safe and ergonomic robotic assistant in real factory conditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinating the project and managing requirements, dissemination, and compliance.
  • Providing the TIAGo Pro robot platform, integrating manipulation, navigation, HRI, and deployment.
  • Developing and validating custom adaptive grippers and a modular grasping pipeline.
  • Integrating AI-based object recognition and pose estimation using JARVIS tools.
  • Implementing ROS4HRI-based human-robot interaction and voice notifications.
  • Delivering a user-friendly web interface for operator interaction.
  • Supporting validation through real-world trials at CETRIKO’s plant and usability studies.
